A used ultrasonic plastic welding machine can look like a bargain, but the price you see is rarely the full cost. This guide explains what drives used-machine pricing and what to inspect before you buy. It is general buying advice; JSB Ultrasonic’s own listed machines are on our product pages.

What Decides the Price of a Used Machine
- Age, condition and hours of use.
- Frequency and power. See how to select welding power.
- Whether the horn, booster and fixtures are included.
- Brand, controls and whether spare parts are still available.
- Whether it has been serviced and tested.
Hidden Costs to Plan For
- Horn: usually made for the previous owner’s part, so a new horn may be needed. See horn repair and custom horns.
- Converter and generator: ageing converters and generators are common failure points. See converter failure causes.
- Installation and training.
Inspection Checklist
| Check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Run the machine under load with a sample of your part | Confirms it can weld your component |
| Inspect horn for cracks and wear | Cracked horns must not be used |
| Check converter, cables and connectors | Common repair items |
| Check generator alarms and stability | Faults can cost more than the machine saves |
| Ask for service history and documents | Shows how it was maintained |
When a New Machine Makes More Sense
If you need a particular tooling setup, a warranty you can rely on, or consistent production, a new machine configured for your part is often safer. Read our price guide and what to send for a quotation, or contact JSB Ultrasonic for advice on your requirement.
