Filter manufacturers join plastic frames, end caps, housings and filter media in large volumes, and the joints often need to be leak-resistant. Ultrasonic welding is widely used for thermoplastic filter assembly because it is fast and adds no adhesive to the filter.
Filtration Applications
- Pleated filter assembly: joining pleated media, end caps and frames. See our pleated filter welding machines.
- Filter housings and cartridges: joining two plastic halves into a sealed body.
- Nonwoven and mesh media: fixing media to plastic frames using spot or seam welding.
- Air, liquid and HVAC filters: where plastic frames or media are suitable for ultrasonic joining.
What to Consider
- Material: frame and media should be compatible thermoplastics. Polypropylene is common; see ultrasonic welding of polypropylene.
- Seal integrity: joint design and weld settings determine how well a joint holds.
- Production rate: volume decides whether a semi-automatic or a customized automated setup is appropriate.
